6 to 7 Years Old > Ideas for a 5 1/2 year old girl

I'm looking for some gift ideas for my daughter. Last year, she received a stable and horses...this year, I am at a loss. Suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

One of our favourite lines is Playmobil. It's a great line to get into and is something that will keep its appeal over many years, to age 10+. There is a wide range of themes and price ranges. You can get a large substantial gift, but there are also smaller sets right down to stocking-stuffer size, so it's easy to add on to later. The Playmobil dollhouses (Grande Mansion and Suburban House) are wonderful, but there are lots of other themes including Castle, Fairy Garden, Farm, Noah's Ark, Jet Plane, Pyramid and Forest Lodge. Playmobil provides fantastic open-ended play -- I found it interesting to watch our own daughter play with it -- at times it was traditional make-believe play, other times she was lining up people and pieces and it was more like a mathematical exercise!

Some other ideas:
- a play cash register, good for imaginative play and educational as well; we carry a great teaching cash register with Canadian currency from Learning Resources
- a collection of puppets and a puppet theatre
- a build-it-yourself Marble Run
- in the doll department, you could look at Karito Kids, Only Hearts Club or Groovy Girls; if your daughter is into horses, Only Hearts Club includes a collection of both Western and English dolls and horses
- in crafts, there are lots of choices - the most unique from 2009 are paint-your-own rainboots; the amazing thing is that when you tire of your design, you can erase it with a special eraser and repaint
